It is again safe for Americans and other visitors to travel to Egypt after its revolution on January 25, says Egyptologist Stephen S. Mehler. “Even during the revolution, Egypt was safe for non-Egyptians,” Mr. Mehler said. “But now security has been re-established and the antiquity sites are fully open and welcome to the public,” he added.
Although Egyptian tourism was negatively impacted during the months after the revolution, it is now rapidly returning to normal. Recent visitors to Egypt have reported that access to ancient sites is greater than ever, crowds are smaller, full security is in evidence and there is a fresh energy and spirit that is welcoming to the public. “This may now be the most fulfilling and opportune time to visit Egypt,” Mr. Mehler said.
Mr. Mehler has been involved with tours to Egypt since 1992 when he became a student of the late Egyptologist, senior tour guide and indigenous wisdom keeper Abd’El Hakim Awyan. From 1998 through 2007 Mr. Mehler worked with and led tours with Hakim.
In October, 2011, Mr. Mehler will lead a full tour to Egypt along with Hakim’s eldest daughter, Shahrzad. The program will feature Stephen Mehler and Shahrzad Awyan sharing the oral wisdom teachings of Hakim at ancient sites. They believe the current time, what Hakim called “The Awakening,” is for all to come to Egypt and fully experience the wisdom and knowledge of this timeless land.
The October 15 – 28, 2011 Sacred Egypt Tour is offered by Body Mind Spirit Journeys. For more information visit http://bodymindspiritjourneys.com.
