Tamil Nadu is India’s southernmost state, and in it is one of the county’s most ancient cities, Madurai, where several years ago this reporter had the opportunity to tour the magnificent Meenakshi Temple. We were very interested, therefore, to see the following report about a company that is offering spiritual tours to Tamil Nadu and nearby Kerala. You can read about my adventure by clicking the following link that leads to an account of my having been blessed by a sacred elephant.
Southern Skies Tours & Travels is keen to promote niche destinations for inbound tours to Tamil Nadu, informed P S Kamleshwaran, CEO, Southern Skies Tours & Travels. In addition, the company is looking at offering customised tour packages to meet the needs of budget travellers. The niche destinations at Tamil Nadu are Valparai, Top Slip, Anamalai Tiger Reserve, and Pollachi.
Established in 2001 by Kamleshwaran, who has been in the travel and tourism business since 1992, Southern Skies Tours & Travels focuses on inbound, domestic and corporate segments. They cater to the needs of the discerning traveller and tour operators/travel agents within India and abroad. Having major clients in Switzerland, US, UK, Australia and the ethnic Indian communities from South Africa, Singapore and Malaysia they specialise in customised tour packages for inbound tours, leisure tours, Ayurveda and spa tours, backwaters, cultural tours, honeymoon tours, yoga and meditation tours, pilgrimage tours, hotel reservations, beach vacations, wildlife and adventure tours, tribal & special interest tours, corporate travel, incentive travel, car/coach rentals, and discovery of roots.
Kamleshwaran added, “Domestic Tourism has seen an increase in leisure, wellness and pilgrim segments. Kerala has always been the top choice. There is also an equal demand for holiday destinations in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.” According to Kamleshwaran, as the Indian economy grows, the domestic segment is all set to improve. They have noticed that the new generation spends more quality time and money on relaxed stress-reliever holidays. What was earlier packed in three-four days has increased to the seven-ten days bracket. Tamil Nadu has always been projected as a pilgrim destination. Lately there’s an increase in travellers taking a combo of leisure, wellness and pilgrim destination. They have also seen an increase in interests from ethnic Indian communities abroad for organising their weddings in India. Another segment that has grown are inbound theme groups viz cruises, bird watching, cycling and architecture tours.
Kamleshwaran has been associated with ETAA for the past three years. His association with ETAA has been fruitful. Kamleshwaran expects to get more mailers, updates, and frequent meetings to get to know the trends in the tourism sector.
